- The White Heart -
History
Built in 1565 by the Earl of Warwick, the
golden chained white hart sign (badge of Richard II) suggests an earlier
medieval existence. Legend has it that both Queen Elizabeth I and Mary
Queen of Scots visited the inn. Although playing host to only one stage
coach it had stabling for 40 horses which suggests a high quality inn
serving a well-to-do clientele in the early 19th century. The frontage was
completely rebuilt in 1891 along its original Tudor lines.
