Penkridge Pub Guide

- The Boat -

History

Ideally located for the passing trade of boatmen on the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal (1767-1772) and the traffic coming off the turnpike road from Cannock at the Town End Gates the Boat evolved into a “local” pub par excellence. It was the gathering point for local men on their way to work at Littleton Colliery. It was probably the first “soccer” pub in Penkridge, providing the changing rooms for Penkridge Utd. Before World War I it was a place of entertainment with concerts, conjurors and comedians and a place of self-help with its Sick and Dividend Fund
